For many, Christmas is a time for family gatherings and celebrations. It can be challenging for those who are caring for someone at the end of life or for those who are spending their first Christmas without a loved one. Your GP is a core part of the health team providing care. Associate professor Mark Boughey discusses important conversations about illness and dying that you will likely have with your GP while you're caring, including information and supports that are available on the CarerHelp website for Australia's diverse communities.

The new Palliative Care Connect service aims to increase access to palliative care services in the community, by giving patients and their families better information about available services, smoother transition between types of care, and better support into end-of-life care pathways. This new service is a wonderful companion to the CarerHelp website which already brings together a range of tools, videos, and information to support carers.

The CarerHelp team recently met with Margaret McKenzie from the Cancer Council. In this blog, Marg shares her thoughts on the CarerHelp website and how she uses it to help her in her supportive care role.

The CarerHelp team look towards the next three years and aim to address the needs of rural carers, increase the focus on grief and bereavement, and provide more direct support to carers.
